Rules Regulations and Standards

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is an independent agency of the United States government tasked with protecting public health and safety related to nuclear energy. This agency has set forth the requirements for seismic qualification under RG 1.100 – Seismic Qualification of Electric and Mechanical Equipment for Nuclear Power Plants.

As well as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standard 344 – Standard for Seismic Qualification of Equipment for Nuclear Power Generating Stations.

Project Objective

To ensure continuous and safe operations in the event of an earthquake, the Condor2 solution for NPPs must be seismically qualified per IEEE-344 standards. Kinemetrics can perform most required testing and analyses in-house to satisfy plant-specific requirements.

Project Achievement

One of the multiple challenges of introducing a new solution to the nuclear industry is that it must be seismically qualified, and Kinemetrics was able to achieve seismic qualification in-house, which it has experience in performing and executing for a variety of systems over the last 50 years.

Project Insights

Requirements Review

All seismic tests and analyses are performed per IEEE-344 standards to meet individual client requirements.

Seismic Qualification

The passing of the Condor2 seismic qualification is an indicator that Kinemetrics continues to uphold and improves its quality, now for over 50 years.

Advancement Through Innovation

An iterative process by performing in-house seismic testing and data gathering creates robust seismically qualified products.

Vertically Integrated

Kinemetrics is proud to have the equipment, capabilities, knowledge, and personnel to qualify integrated components.
