Ciudad-Real previously held the position of Vice President of Earthquake Engineering. As Kinemetrics’ new CEO, he will be responsible for the company’s sales, services, engineering, administrative, and operational functions. Ciudad-Real’s vast experience developing earthquake monitoring and information solutions for customers worldwide makes him well-suited to lead Kinemetrics as it continues to grow and protect people through innovation in earthquake science and engineering. In addition, he brings a substantial knowledge of the company, its culture, and the markets in which it operates. “I am thrilled with the opportunity to lead Kinemetrics to a new chapter, with the vision of taking earthquake resilience further and faster through reliable instrumentation, vertical applications and services. My confidence is rooted in the remarkable people we have at Kinemetrics and the great customers we serve,” said Ciudad-Real.
Ciudad-Real will be supported by the company’s Board of Directors, its experienced and long-tenured management team, and by departing President & CEO Ogie Kuraica, who will serve in the role of Executive Chairman. “I am confident that Mauricio, along with Kinemetrics’ exceptional management team and the support of our parent company, OYO Corporation, will have a transformative effect in taking the company to the next level of growth and will effectively lead Kinemetrics through the opportunities that lie ahead,” said Kuraica. Both the promotion of Ciudad-Real and the transition of Kuraica to Executive Chairman are part of Kinemetrics’ long-standing succession plan.
Before joining Kinemetrics in 1996, Ciudad-Real started his career as a seismic network operator at the Geological Survey of El Salvador. After earning a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California, he joined the Sales team and later the Open Systems & Services Division of Kinemetrics and worked on a wide variety of high-profile projects here in the US and abroad, including a first-of-its-kind earthquake monitoring solution in Dubai at the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Recently, Ciudad-Real has been instrumental in building Kinemetrics’ dominance in the nuclear power plant and liquefied natural gas markets.
