About Our Client

Venture Global LNG Inc. is a producer of North American liquified natural gas (LNG) focusing on export facilities to supply the world’s growing demand for low-cost, clean, and reliable energy. Their latest project Plaquemines LNG facility is located at a 630-acre site with approximately 1.3 miles of deep-water frontage on the Mississippi River. The facility contains thirty-six 0.626 MTPA liquefaction trains, six pre-treatment trains, three ship loading berths with 185,000 cubic meters capacity and four 200,000 cubic meter full containment LNG storage tanks. The project includes two 720 MW combined cycle gas turbine power plants, including additional 25 MW gas-fired aeroderivative turbines, a utility dock on the Mississippi River, along with two 15- and 12-miles long pipelines to connect to existing interstate natural gas pipelines.   *All images courtesy of Venture Global LNG

Project Objective

To ensure safe operations, the project design included provisions for earthquakes and required seismic monitoring to assess condition of the facility after an earthquake and to determine Operating Basis Earthquake (OBE) and Safe Shutdown Earthquake (SSE) design limits exceedance in support of emergency response procedures.

Project Achievement

The CONDOR2 Platform monitors the ground motions due to earthquakes and determines, in real-time, whether or not they exceed OBE or SSE design limits to continue operations or initiate safe shutdown procedures. Along with one free-field accelerograph, the system includes monitoring of the LNG tanks (with accelerographs, one at the foundation and one at the roof) providing real time data of the structural response.

Project Insights

Reliability

Provided solution designed to meet IECEx Explosion-Proof standards.

Seismic Monitoring

Implemented CONDOR2 Platform technology to monitor seismic activity in real-time with automatic OBE/SSE analysis, alarm, and reporting.

Safe Operations

Increased Operators’ confidence, supporting safe operations and emergency response procedures.

Operational Continuity

Avoided uncertainties in decision making process and continuing safe operations.
