About Kinemetrics

Since 1969, Kinemetrics and its subsidiaries have been the global market leaders in designing technology platforms, products, and solutions for monitoring earthquakes and their effects on people and structures. Our products represent the de facto industry standards.

Kinemetrics has been responsible for many of the critical technological breakthroughs that have enabled earthquake science and engineering to reach its current state. As a result, we have helped societies better understand seismic and similar events on a global, regional, and local scale.

Over the decades, our focus has grown from delivering seismic instrumentation to providing complete platforms.

Our innovative open platforms are used to monitor civil structures, bridges, dams, nuclear power plants, and more, to provide essential information to operators and other stakeholders before, during, and after a seismic or other event. The world-class Kinemetrics instrumentation provides an unmatched foundation for gathering reliable, accurate data anywhere in the world.

Kinemetrics products are used to monitor the seismic safety of many of the world's most famous structures, including New York's Statue of Liberty, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, Egypt's Sphinx, Athens' Parthenon, India's Taj Mahal, and Dubai's Burj Khalifa.

With NASA's InSight Mission, Kinemetrics instrumentation reached Mars. The SEIS-SP component of the seismometer package uses patented Kinemetrics MEMS technology and electronics designed by Kinemetrics in collaboration with Imperial College and Oxford University in the UK.

In 1991 Kinemetrics transferred ownership to OYO Corporation of Japan. Over the decades since, Kinemetrics has extended its reach as the undisputed world leader in cutting‐edge seismic instrumentation and monitoring solutions through the acquisition of Quanterra Inc. in 1999 and Metrozet in 2009, and the establishment of a state-of-the-art sensor manufacturing facility in Pfungen, Switzerland in 2021.

Kinemetrics’ commitment to customer service and satisfaction is delivered through a network of over 30 representatives serving customers throughout the world and a distinguished in-house service division dedicated to delivering installation, operations, maintenance, and training for our valued customers.

Kinemetrics' manufacturing and design facilities in Southern California enable the company to take advantage of the unique opportunities of the region, and partnerships with leading higher education and scientific research institutions ensure that the company will remain at the forefront of technological innovation.

Kinemetrics Inc. operates offices in California, Illinois, Switzerland, and Austria, as well as a joint operation with our parent company in Japan (OYO SI) in support of regional markets and projects.

With its rich history of impact and innovation, and a highly-skilled team focused on developing and leveraging new technology, Kinemetrics is positioned for continued success far into the future.

Kinemetrics' Quality Assurance Program is in full compliance with ISO9001:2008 standard.

Open Systems & Services Divisions

Open Systems & Services (OSS) is a distinguished team of geoscience specialists, earthquake engineers, and information technologists within Kinemetrics who serve diverse markets leveraging a truly

multi-disciplinary approach towards meeting the needs of our clients and partners.

The OSS Division brings unique perspectives to seismic, structural, and environmental monitoring systems, providing onsite and remote maintenance and operation services beyond Kinemetrics' world-class

instrumentation.

A vital asset is the Division's highly trained and experienced technicians who have implemented and operated seismic instrumentation and solutions in every corner of the world.

Data quality and availability are paramount to the operation of any seismic or environmental monitoring system. In support of this, the OSS Division also maintains a dedicated data center to ensure data quality control and state-of-health monitoring of customer's seismic networks, and the operation of implementations of the Kinemetrics Platform.

Today, many of our installations maintain network uptime and data return in excess of 99%, a product of the advanced capabilities and experience of the OSS team.

The combination of Kinemetrics’ worldwide reach and the OSS Division’s exceptional capabilities ensures that our customers and partners have access to the support and expertise they need whenever they need it.

A vital asset is the Division's highly trained and experienced technicians. OSS teams have installed seismic instrumentation around the world and across the United States. Moreover, we recognize that data availability and quality are areas of continuous improvement. As the innovator in seismic data communications, Kinemetrics was the first to apply networking technology to data communications. Today, in many of our installations, network uptime and data return are in the 99+% range, a product of advanced network layout and superior maintenance.
